Lest You Forget

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. 1 Chronicles 16:34

I guess it's human nature to take things for granted but that doesn't mean it is right. As I was sitting in my comfortable recliner, things started flooding my mind that in my everyday life, I take for granted. People in third-world countries do not have access to medical care, yet we have urgent care on almost every corner, While people are struggling to find their next meal, we just walk to the fridge that is loaded with all kinds of food. While we ride in an air-conditioned car to church, thousands of people have to walk miles to church. (If they have access to a church!)

I'm not trying to lay a guilt trip on anyone but if we are honest, most of us are ungrateful. Not we are intentional, it's human nature but as Christ-followers, we are asked to live above our human natures. That's why Scripture repeatedly commands us to be thankful. Listen to these verses:

  • 1 Thessalonians 5:18 Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

  • Psalm 100:4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.

  • Colossians 3:17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Thankfulness is the antidote for ingratitude, so let's be intentional in giving thanks.
