Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. James 4:8
I have often heard people comment that they wished they could live closer to God. After all, Christianity is based on man's relationship with God but can we improve that relationship? But who is responsible for the level of the relationship?
In the English construction of James 4:8, the subject of the sentence is YOU. You draw near to God... In Greek construction, 'draw' is in the present tense meaning a continuing to draw near. We are responsible for drawing close to God and He responds by nearing near to us. The more we seek after God, the more intimate the relationship. Proverbs 8:17 says, "...Those eagerly looking for me will find me." 1 Chronicles 16:11 tells us, "Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always." The Bible repeatedly admonishes us to seek Him.
If you are not satisfied with your relationship with God; you need to intensify your pursuit of God. Let me leave you this verse. "My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me." Psalms 63:8
