Learning to Stand

Writer's picture: Gary RupertGary Rupert

Stand firm in the one Spirit, striving together as one for the faith of the gospel.” Philippians 1:27

I grew up around horses. I've always loved watching a newborn foal. They have an instinctive need to nurse, so they try to stand almost immediately. It takes a while for them to figure out how they get their legs under them. They rock back and forth trying to get their balance. After a few false starts, they begin walking. It isn't long before they are running, even if their brakes don't work very well. They sometimes run into their mother or each other.

That's the image I have of you and me learning to stand in the Lord. It takes a while to figure it out. We'll fall and we'll wobble. Sometimes we run into each other. But like the foal, God created us to stand for Him. Yes, we will face opposition but we have nothing to fear when we stand in the power of His Spirit and share the Good News of Jesus with the world.
