What's On Your Plate?

Writer's picture: Gary RupertGary Rupert

Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand. 1 Chronicles 29:14

I love a delicious steak dinner. I enjoy freshly baked cookies. Every day God prepares a plate of experiences. Some days are “three cookies day.” Many are not. Sometimes our plate is nothing but vegetables, but twenty-four hours of celery, carrots, and squash is difficult. Apparently, God knows we need strength and the portion might be hard to swallow. All are important and all come from God. “...that’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good. Romans 8:28.

So the next time your plate you find hard to swallow, talk to God about it. Jesus did. In the Garden of Gethsemane, his Father handed Him a cup of suffering so sour, so vile, that Jesus handed it back to heaven. “My Father,” He prayed, “if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will” Matthew 26:39
